GETTING AROUND IN WALTHAMSTOW

The town’s proximity to London means you’re close to the hustle and bustle of the city. Walthamstow is exceptionally well-served by trains on the London Underground, London Overground and National Rail networks, getting you into central London in approximately 25 minutes. The town is also on several London bus routes and has excellent road links, with the A12, M11, and North Circular right on your doorstep.

A SHORT HISTORY OF WALTHAMSTOW

The town was historically part of Essex until the creation of the London Borough of Redbridge in 1965. One of its most famous residents was the writer, poet, designer and socialist William Morris, born here on 24th March 1834. His former house in the town is now a museum dedicated to his life and works. Today, Walthamstow is home to around 109,000 residents, including several famous names – the town is probably best known as the home of chart-toppers, East 17, who took their name from the postcode.

ESCAPE TO WALTHAMSTOW

A property in Walthamstow is close to an abundance of green spaces – Walthamstow Marshes and Epping Forest make it the perfect escape from the city. If you're a keen cyclist, you'll love Walthamstow’s many cycle routes. The popular River Lea Towpath can be found here, offering a signposted route that is part of the National Cycle Route 1 linking Dover to the Shetland Islands.

SHOPPING AND ENTERTAINMENT IN WALTHAMSTOW

As well as hosting the longest market of its kind, Walthamstow Market, the town boasts excellent shopping facilities. While the leading supermarket chains are well represented within the town, there are plenty of independent shops, too. It also benefits from a healthy array of excellent restaurants, bars, and takeaways – Eat 17 is a personal favourite of ours.
